Ken Miller Lied

August 1, 2010

Habitual Liar? Ken, come by my shop and I'll shorten that nose for you.

Politics is expected to be less honest than most lines of work, people will fluff up their qualifications a bit. But when one sees an example of bald face lying to gain an office, something must be done to expose the dishonesty.

It is really quite simple. Ken Miller claimed in his campaign ads, literature, and website that he never voted for a tax increase while at the legislature. He even got J C Watts to lie for him in a commercial, or Miller lied to Watts.

The reality is that Ken Miller authored many tax increases and voted for them constantly as they wound their way through the legislative process. At the final vote, he would transfer the bill to another loyal legislator after securing more than enough votes to pass it, then vote against the tax increse. Or on occasions, he was allowed to “walk the vote”, leave the House chamber so that he wasn’t required to vote. On a regular vote, a walked vote is considered a “no” but on procedural votes, the rules can be different.

We did around 160,000 robo calls two days before the election exposing Ken Miller, yet he still won by around 20% of the vote, outspending his opponent, a good and decent man.

Why is this so important? The Treasurers office is used to reward the big campaign contributors with sweetheart banking deals awarded with no bidding. Plus tax credits are handed out like candy to the big donors, tax credits that can be sold for 85 cents on the dollar. One deal alone in Altus netted the investors over $25,000,000 in cash after the tax credits were sold with not a single job created or a single product built! The citizens of Oklahoma simply can not afford to have a dishonest person running that office. Add a potential Republican Auditor, a Republican House and Senate, and possibly a Republican Governor, and you have a receipe for massive corruption.

So we launched kenmillerlied.com

Tea Party Demographics

March 14, 2010

A poll by CNN:

According to the survey, roughly 11 percent of all Americans say they have actively supported the Tea Party movement, either by donating money, attending a rally, or taking some other active step to support the movement. Of this core group of Tea Party activists, 6 of 10 are male and half live in rural areas.

Nearly three quarters of Tea Party activists attended college, compared to 54 percent of all Americans, and more than three in four call themselves conservatives.

“Keep in mind that this is a pretty small sample of Tea Party activists,” notes Holland. “But even taking that into account, the demographic gaps that the poll finds between those activists and the general public on gender, education, income, ideology, and voting behavior appear to be significant differences.”

The poll indicates that about 24 percent of the public generally favors the Tea Party movement but has not taken any actions such as donating money or attending a rally. Adding in the 11 percent who say they are active, a total of 35 percent could be described as Tea Party supporters. That larger group is also predominantly male, higher-income, and conservative.

Some 45 percent of all Americans say they don’t know enough about the Tea Party to have a view of the movement; one in five say they oppose the Tea Party.

According to the survey, most Tea Party activists describe themselves as Independents.

Domestic Terrorism

Part 1

SPLC story on their own report (i.e., the short version)

A key paragraph:

The Patriot movement has made significant inroads into the conservative political scene, according to the new report. “The ‘tea parties’ and similar groups that have sprung up in recent months cannot fairly be considered extremist groups, but they are shot through with rich veins of radical ideas, conspiracy theories and racism,” the report says.

SPLC story Rage on the Right (i.e., the longer version)

Interesting paragraphs:

As the movement has exploded, so has the reach of its ideas, aided and abetted by commentators and politicians in the ostensible mainstream. While in the 1990s, the movement got good reviews from a few lawmakers and talk-radio hosts, some of its central ideas today are being plugged by people with far larger audiences like FOX News’ Glenn Beck and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn). Beck, for instance, re-popularized a key Patriot conspiracy theory — the charge that FEMA is secretly running concentration camps — before finally “debunking” it.

Last year also experienced levels of cross-pollination between different sectors of the radical right not seen in years. Nativist activists increasingly adopted the ideas of the Patriots; racist rants against Obama and others coursed through the Patriot movement; and conspiracy theories involving the government appeared in all kinds of right-wing venues. A good example is the upcoming Second Amendment March in Washington, D.C. The website promoting the march is topped by a picture of a colonial militiaman, and key supporters include Larry Pratt, a long-time militia enthusiast with connections to white supremacists, and Richard Mack, a conspiracy-mongering former sheriff associated with the Patriot group Oath Keepers.

2002 FBI report on Eco-terrorism

During the past decade we have witnessed dramatic changes in the nature of the terrorist threat. In the 1990s, right-wing extremism overtook left-wing terrorism as the most dangerous domestic terrorist threat to the country. During the past several years, special interest extremism, as characterized by the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), has emerged as a serious terrorist threat. Generally, extremist groups engage in much activity that is protected by constitutional guarantees of free speech and assembly. Law enforcement becomes involved when the volatile talk of these groups transgresses into unlawful action. The FBI estimates that the ALF/ELF have committed more than 600 criminal acts in the United States since 1996, resulting in damages in excess of 43 million dollars.

Part 3

SPLC lists the Nation of Islam as a Black Separatist organization

A leading example of a black separatist group is the Nation of Islam led by Louis Farrakhan. In 1997, and in less explicit ways since then, Farrakhan made clear that he had renounced none of the anti-white, anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic and anti-gay views of the previous Nation leader, Elijah Mohammed. Those beliefs include the view that Yacub, a renegade black “scientist,” created whites 6,600 years ago as an inherently evil and ungodly people — “blue-eyed devils.” Farrakhan has described Catholics and Jews, who he said practice a “gutter religion,” as preying on blacks. He regrets the “tone” of a former principal subordinate who called for slaughtering white South Africans, but agreed with the message. He called for racial separatism and inveighed against interracial relationships.

Washington Post (2008): Obama’s Farrakhan Test

Barack Obama is a member of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ. Its minister, and Obama’s spiritual adviser, is the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 1982, the church launched Trumpet Newsmagazine; Wright’s daughters serve as publisher and executive editor. Every year, the magazine makes awards in various categories. Last year, it gave the Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter Award to a man it said “truly epitomized greatness.” That man is Louis Farrakhan.

NRO’s Stanley Kurtz on links between former terrorist Bill Ayers and Obama

According to Fact.Check.org, a supposedly non-partisan organization, “There’s…no evidence of a deep or strong friendship with Ayers.” In fact, Obama and Ayers had a significant political partnership. We saw it at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, where Obama ran a board that was responsible for channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars to Bill Ayers’ education projects. We saw it during the fight over the juvenile justice bill in Illinois in 1997-98, when Obama and Ayers appeared on a panel designed to undermine a very reasonable juvenile crime bill, and when Obama plugged Ayers’ book on juvenile justice in the Chicago Tribune. We also have considerable evidence that the Obama camp has not been fully forthcoming about possible additional connections between Ayers and Obama.

For articles the Minnesota press can refer to if it wants to develop a more genuine “fact-check” on the Obama-Ayers relationship, see here, here, here, here, and here.

MAPS III Must Not Pass

November 8, 2009

boston_tea_party_1746

Is this the time for a tax increase?

Face it, we are facing a deep recession if not a depression. This is no time to be spending tax dollars on frivolous projects when the state is struggling. MAPS has been a non stop, forever tax increase even though it was initally sold as a temporary tax increase. FIrst passed in 1993, the tax has been a good old boys property improvement club, increasing Bricktown property values or increasing traffic to the clubs and resturants. Next the tax bought new buildings, much larger new buildings, leaving the property taxes straining to pay the increased overhead and staffing costs that went along with these new palaces.

This time, they are wanting to provide for the creation of a 70-acre park downtown, a fixed-rail streetcar system and new convention center downtown, trails and sidewalks throughout the city, state fairgrounds improvements, wellness aquatic centers for senior citizens, and upgrades to facilities at the Oklahoma River at the heart of the metro area

The tax has drawn a lot of opposition, police, firefighters, city employees, there are many that do not want this .777 billion dollar tax increase passed at this time. Of course the objections would disappear if only the politicians would throw some cash their way. The city management refused to play ball though, October 8th was the deadline for changes in the ballot, now all that can be done is to cancel the vote and pay the costs of the elections anyway.

I can find things that are true public needs in the list of projects, but there is a lot of fluff and payoffs for property developers and Bricktown. Bottom line is that this is no time to pass almost a billion dollars in new taxes, it is a good time to allow the tax to end until economic conditions improve a bit.

We have a new activist that is willing to ramrod this new effort as part of a OCA (Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance) Ad Hoc committee. If you are interested in helping out, we have less than one month to make a difference. It can be done, there are formible allies already working against it.

Not This MAPS

Fabric designed by Vivienne Tam

Fabric designed by Vivienne Tam

Walking up to this furniture  showroom at the High Point Furniture Market,  I was aghast and disappointed at their featured piece.  Why was it they were featuring Chairman Mao?  He was the worst mass murderer of the 20th century.  Over 30 million Chinese perished in a grain shortage brought on by insanely irresponsible dictates of Chairman Mao.  Another 30 million were estimated to have died in prisons and labor camps during Chairman Mao’s rule.  There are documented cases of hunger so intense as to cause inmates to eat human flesh. (Source: “Women from Shanghai” by Xainhui Yang)

The fabric and furniture designer, Vivienne Tam, called Mao a “fashion czar” because he forced everyone in the country, over 1 billion people, to wear the shapeless, drab-colored “Mao-Suit”.  I do not understand Ms. Tam’s fascination with Chairman Mao; her own family fled China to escape Mao’s rule.  I doubt this furniture company would have considered featuring a fabric with Hitler on it.  This would have been  just as hideous!

This acceptance and even honor of such appalling and heinous crimes is most disturbing.  We read in the news how our government leaders revere Chairman Mao.  But do they really know:

1. Mao became a Communist at the age of 27 for purely pragmatic reasons: a job and income from the Russians.

2. After he conquered China, Mao’s over-riding goal was to become a superpower and dominate the world: “Control the Earth,” as he put it.

3. Mao caused the greatest famine in history by exporting food to Russia to buy nuclear and arms industries: 38 million people were starved and slave-driven to death in 1958-61. Mao knew exactly what was happening, saying: “half of China may well have to die.” (Mao, The Unknown Story)

Anything sound familiar?  So that   history does not repeat itself we must continually learn the lessons of history.  Pass it on.

Quick Financial Disaster Update

October 17, 2009

The GAO has released a report on fiscal year 2009 with projections for the future that indicate mandatory spending (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and interest on the national debt) by itself may exceed total government revenue by around the year 2020.  At that point, all other government spending – military, education, transportation, etc. – will require borrowing.

If that doesn’t depress/anger you enough, here’s a lovely animation on employment gains and losses over the last five years.

Update: If you need a little cheering up, here’s a nice little article on a recent economics Nobel laureate whose research shows how local solutions are usually better than national or international ones.

When Someone is Drowning, Do Not Throw Them an Anchor

October 8, 2009

Here are some headlines from today’s Drudge Report:

  • Obama under fire over falling dollar…
  • Alarm over debt draws together diverse coalition…
  • Budget deficit hits $1.4 trillion for ’09…
  • Illinois Unpaid Bills Hits Record High; Tax Revenue Plummets…

Get the picture? The economy is dying folks. Tax revenues are falling because there are no jobs. Deficits are soaring because the government promises to pay for more than it collects in taxes.

Did you know that for fiscal year 2009, the US Government will collect in taxes only 1/4 of the money needed to fund all the programs it promises? That means it will fund the other 3/4 with DEBT, payday loans from the Chinese that come at a very dear price to our national security.

So what’s the point? The point is that now is NOT the time to saddle our society with more promises the government can’t pay. And that means no government health care control. The Lewin Group, a health care policy research and management consulting firm, estimates program’s cost could easily be $4.5 trillion over 10 years (source). But of course, as Senator Mitch McConnell has said, “The real bill will be written by Democrat leaders in a closed-to-the-public conference room somewhere in the Capitol. The real bill will be another 1,000-page, trillion-dollar experiment” (source).

Today, America is a dying economy, and that means a dying nation. The prescription for the cure is lower taxes and fewer regulations, so people with bright ideas and a strong work ethic can create things we can sell and can hire others. The prescription is to make our own native sources of energy cheap and accessible. The answer is to stop exporting American wealth and security to countries that enslave their people and hate the ideals our nation stands for (or used to stand for).

So healthcare and its concomitant high taxes are not the right prescription for a nation in the death throes of the worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression. You do not cure problems caused by government tyranny, fiscal profligacy and mismanagement with more of the same. You do not throw a drowning man an anchor.

Oklahoma graduation and retention rates among lowest in the nation

October 5, 2009

http://www.newsok.com/oklahoma-graduation-and-retention-rates-among-lowest-in-the-nation/article/3405727?custom_click=headlines_widget

Snippet:

Six years after beginning college, only 44.1 percent of Oklahoma college students attain bachelor’s degrees at the institutions where they started.

Nother choice snippet:

Oklahoma’s boldest initiative in that area is Oklahoma’s Promise program, formerly known as the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program (OHLAP). It’s a program that calls for the state to pick up the tuition costs of students in families that earn $50,000 or less, as long as students fulfill a promise to take college preparatory classes, stay out of trouble and maintain high school grade point averages of at least 2.5.

Gee – a 2.5, and they get free tuition on our dime? How stupid is Glen Johnson? Rewarding mediocre performance in mediocre Oklahoma high schools is not a recipe for success. It sends the message that “just skate by on ‘okay’ and someone else will pay.” How the hell hard is it to make a 2.5 in already dumbed-down schools if you crack the books once in a while? And how much is it costing Oklahomans to fund this “excellence in mediocrity” tripe? No wonder the grad rate is in the pits – we have a “scholarship” program that floods our colleges with kids who are not invested (see the word I chose) in their own futures.

How about we toughen up our high school achievement standards and then give scholarships to kids who make the best grades, who have worked hard and hence shown the highest propensity to continue to do so? Hard workers create wealth, thrive under adversity, and return to society tenfold the few dollars invested in them. So raise the bar and give out fewer, more selective merit scholarships. Oh and subsidize the first few out of Glen Johnson’s salary. He could stand to lose a few chins.
